Optioned Screenwriter

My fascination with true crime began at an early age following the murders of the Clutter family outside of Holcomb, Kansas who were friends with my parents and grandparents.   Truman Capote's, "In Cold Blood" is that story.

Decades later, I work as a Trial Preparation Specialist for criminal defense attorney Paul Looney in Houston where I research court and discovery documents that inspire me to write true crime novels and screenplays.

The Drug Lord

"Money, Power, Drugs...Don't Let Friendship Get in the Way"

Full-length feature film based on the true story of two sets of brothers, childhood friends, who join rival cartels.

When cartel loyalty superseded friendship, the result is death of

two of the brothers and a bitter war that commenced as the two former friends faced killing the other or lose everything.

Geronimo

"The Deadliest Bank Robbery in Oklahoma History"

This 2-part premium limited docu-series is based on the true story of the robbery and murders in a bank in the small town of Geronimo in 1984.  Four people died including three employees,  brutally stabbed 75 times and a customer shot in the head.  Three more customers were shot in the head but lived.   Both Jay Wesley Neill and Robert Grady Johnson received the death penalty even though Johnson was proven to be 16 miles away during the crime.  The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals reversed and a new trial resulted in a death sentence for Neill.

He was executed by the State of Oklahoma in 2002.

Johnson is currently serving four life sentences.

The Waco Biker Shootout

On May 17, 2015, a shootout erupted at a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco Texas leaving nine dead, 20 injured and 177 arrested for "engaging in organized criminal activity."  The shootout involved motorcycle clubs including the Bandidos and the Cossacks who were gathering for the Coalition of Clubs and Independents meeting concerning political rights for motorcyclists.

Law enforcement including 18 members of the Waco police department and four state troopers gathered to monitor the meeting. A fist fight ensued in the parking lot, followed by a barrage of rifle fire.  Later, the response from prosecutors was widely criticized as brazen overreach.

The law firm I work with in Houston accepted several bikers as clients and I investigated the cases, preparing them for trial.  This involved analyzing 1.9 terabytes of discovery and turned into a seven-year "tale of prosecutorial hubris and tenacious defense," according to the New York Times magazine.  The cases ended with zero convictions.

Today I assist filmmakers with factual information for news stories and full-feature documentaries.  I recently finished the pilot for an 6-part limited series and am writing a novel covering the details of this massive story.  Read the New York Times story here:  https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/23/magazine/waco-biker-shootout.html

Professional Writer/Optioned Screenwriter

With a bachelors degree in Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma,  I write technical documents and creative pieces as a free-lance writer for magazines and newspapers across the country.

Screenwriting was a natural progression in my life because of my love of film.  I have worked as a Production Assistant, Production Manager,  Optioned Screenwriter, Producer and Executive Producer.

True Crime Blog

My journey began with the murders of the Clutter family outside Holcomb, KS 18 miles from my grandparents farm. After reading "In Cold Blood" early in life, I was hooked on true crime. The Manson murders, UT massacre, Boston strangler & murders of John & Bobby Kennedy & Martin Luther King happened during my formative years. These cases inspired me later in life to investigate crimes for Houston criminal defense attorney Paul Looney, as his Trial Preparation Specialist. www.lschlaw.com
